Stimulus & strategy

A barbell cycling test built around grip and shoulders. Smart hand-offs between the deadlifts, cleans and jerks save you far more than raw strength.

Standards
  • · Rx men: 70 kg · Rx women: 47.5 kg
  • · All from a single barbell; deadlift to lockout, hang power clean from above the knee, push jerk to overhead.
Scaling
  • · Reduce the load so the hang power cleans stay unbroken early on.
Coaching tips
  • · Go straight from the last deadlift into the first clean without dropping the bar to save grip.
  • · Take 9 cleans as 5–4 or 6–3 before you have to: a planned break beats a failed rep.
