Heavy deadlifts and handstand push-ups. Fast when both click.
The workout (For Time)
- 21-15-9 reps for time:
- Deadlift — 102 kg (225 lb) / 70 kg (155 lb)
- Handstand push-up
Estimated time: 3–14 min. A couplet of a heavy pull and an inverted press. The deadlifts should be quick; the handstand push-ups are usually the limiter.
Standards
- Rx men: 102 kg · Rx women: 70 kg
- Deadlift to full hip and knee extension; strict HSPU, head to the floor, arms locked at the top.
Scaling
- Reduce the deadlift so the 21 is at most two quick sets.
- Scale HSPU to pike push-ups off a box or to a target you can string together.
Coaching tips
- Touch-and-go the deadlifts only while your form is crisp — singles are fine.
- Break the handstand push-ups before failure to avoid a long time stuck at the wall.
