Hip flexor pain and tightness
A pulling ache at the front of the hip that shows up in the sled push, lunges and knee drive. It usually reflects a hip flexor doing more work than it has been trained for, not a tight muscle that needs stretching.

También llamado: Hip flexor strain, Front-of-hip pain
Cómo suele manifestarse
- A deep ache or pull at the front of the hip, sometimes into the top of the thigh.
- Worst driving the knee up: running, lunges, the sled push.
- Tight and sore after long periods sitting.
- Occasionally a sensation of catching or clicking in the front of the hip.
Qué suele provocarlo
- A jump in sled and lunge volume, both of which hammer the front of the hip.
- Hard running with high knee drive on a hip flexor that has never been strengthened.
- Long sitting hours between hard sessions.
- Weak glutes on the same side, so the front of the hip works to stabilise as well as move.
Se dispara normalmente con
- Sled push, especially in the low forward-lean position.
- Sandbag lunges over distance.
- Fast running and hill work.
- Toes-to-bar in long sets.
Qué suele seguir disponible
- Upper-body training entirely.
- Rowing and ski erg, usually comfortable.
- Squats and deadlifts in a range that stays quiet.
- Hip flexor strengthening, which is more often the answer than stretching.
Sustituciones de entrenamiento
- En lugar de Sled push: Sled drag or heavy split squats in a comfortable range
- En lugar de Walking lunges: Step-ups or split squats with a shorter stride
- En lugar de Toes-to-bar: Hanging knee raises or V-ups
- En lugar de Sprint intervals: Tempo running or rowing intervals
Qué se suele reconstruir
- Hip flexor strength under load and at end range, not just mobility work.
- Glute strength so the hip has a working partner on the other side.
- Sled volume reintroduced progressively rather than in one race-simulation session.
- Movement through the day if the job is a sitting one: the hip rarely settles in a chair.
Cuándo parar y acudir a un profesional
- Pain deep in the groin with a catching or locking sensation.
- It hurts at rest, at night, or refers into the knee.
- Sudden severe pain during a single rep with immediate weakness.
- Any hip pain in an athlete with low energy availability or a history of stress fractures.
